CNU advocates for Cambridge Residences, Trees, and Green spaces and policies advancing local input and design oversight on New housing being planned vis-a-vis height, scale, green spaces, AND PARKING.
The City of Cambridge has introduced a plan to upzone the city in every neighborhood to allow 4 story buildings everywhere and diminish green spaces and trees, with little oversight from the BZA, Historical Commission, or Planning Board.

CNU Mission and Goals
To inform Cambridge residents about matters that impact our neighborhoods across the city. To promote local input into the look, context, and climate compatibility of proposed changes in our neighborhoods. To improve the quality of present and future housing and their sustainability vis-a-vis neighborhood local businesses. To support elected officials who share and affirm our principles and expectations. |

THE Problem
Neighborhoods across Cambridge are facing increasing challenges to ongoing residential vitality, from the tearing down of historic homes to build McMansions, or new public housing initiatives which have led to the building of out-of-scale, public housing structures that dwarf neighborhood homes and are without requisite green spaces or parking aggravating existing parking and traffic problems.
ABoUT US
We are group of volunteers from across the city who are dedicated to redressing recent and ongoing citywide zoning changes that promote greater height, density, and tear downs in both market rate and public housing, leading to decreases in city green spaces, trees, and parking. Our goal is also to create greater transparency, equity, and accountability within public and market rate housing design and approval processes as well as better housing accountability, livability and maintenance. We seek assurances that the city public housing zoning ordinance conforms with state law.
